Taking trains in Italy varies greatly. I got a “great deal” on this train ticket, though it took an extra hour of travel across central Italy from east to west. This train was only 2 cars long, it was personally run by two Italians who were very proud of their colorfully decorated train. They all but rolled out the red carpet when I boarded with the most cheerful welcome I’d ever received. It chugged a slow as can be, joyfully blowing its whistle at every opportunity. It was the funnest train ride I’ve taken by far to date.
